AIRPORT

Istanbul is easily accessible by air. There are two main international airports of the city, Istanbul Airport – European Side, and Sabiha Gokcen International Airport – Asian Side.

ISTANBUL AIRPORT

The airport (IATA: IST) is located North of Istanbul, on the European side of the city. There are several connections to almost all major cities of Europe and have directs flights from the airport. There are connections to the Middle East with destinations in the Far East, Africa, and North America. Many of these are operated by the national airline, Turkish Airlines, either by itself or through code sharing agreements.
The airport is a single terminal building that is in fact the largest in the world. The terminal has five different piers. Four is international and of the four is a domestic pier.

SABIHA GÖKÇEN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (IATA: SAW) is Istanbul’s second international airport, located on the Asian side of the city, in the Pendik district. It serves 3 million international and half a million domestic passengers annually. The airport has 1 terminal, but expansion works on the airport terminal began in the summer of 2008. The airport is located 40 km away from the city center.
Although the airport is operating with a single terminal for both domestic and international flights, the airport can provide smooth service for passengers with easily accessible gates with short walking distances.
